  2. several other tropical burrowing species are
  3. placed in the Amphisbaenia, a group separate
  4. from lizards and snakes among the Squamata.
  5. Unlike the others, however, which have no
  6. legs, it has a pair of short but
  7. well-developed front legs. In line with its
  8. burrowing habits, the skull is very solid,
  9. the eyes small, and external ears absent. The
  10. scales are arranged in rings, giving the body
  11. a worm-like appearance.
